S. Africa seizes first farm in reform drive

Johannesburg: South Africa, under pressure to redress land ownership imbalances left by apartheid, has expropriated its first farm in a reform drive aimed at returning land to the black majority, officials said yesterday.
The state-ordered sale of a farm in Northern Cape province marks a new phase in the contentious issue in South Africa, where the government has come under fire for moving too slowly to put land in black hands.
More than a decade after the end of apartheid, over 90 per cent of farmland is still owned by the white elite. Until now, the government has moved cautiously, careful not to rattle investor nerves given the chaos that accompanied a similar land redistribution process in neighbouring Zimbabwe.
But the government has recently hardened its stance, and officials said they would use the full power of post-apartheid laws which allow government to order land sales to speed up the process.
The first expropriation took effect on January 26, the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights said in a statement.
“I think it [the expropriation] is most significant. … It [reform] is something that cannot lag forever,” said Susan Booysen, a political scientist at the University of the Witwatersrand.
“The nitty-gritty of each individual case is an incredible mine field government has to go through.”
Restitution is part of South Africa’s broader land reform programme and allows blacks, many of whom were evicted from ancestral lands, to apply to have their rights restored or to ask for financial compensation.
They can also seek government loans to purchase land.

Arthur Kemp has written a very interesting little book titled “The Lie of Apartheid.” For him, the lie was simply that the system could work with such large numbers of blacks living among a much smaller number of white people. He says, correctly I think, that eventually the blacks would necessarily simply overwhelm the white population. The lie was in thinking that the whites cold somehow maintain control. They wanted black labor, but they certainly did not want black control. They miscalculated badly.
The results of having black governments take over in Rhodesia and South Africa was entirely predictable to anyone who was thinking clearly and not under the delusion of political correctness. Blacks, like every other people on the face of the globe except whites, think tribally, and as soon as they came to power, they acted in tribal fashion. The concept of merit, of finding the best qualified person for a government position went out the window, and instead it was all abut putting into power members of one’s own tribe, “your brother-in-law” so t speak.
There were much greater problems than nepotism, however. There were old animosities, old scores to be settled, the desire to wipe out other tribes completely. Blacks have never had much compunction about killing other blacks, just as they have no hesitation about killing whites either. Killing is a part of life for the black African, even with some degree of education.
They saw white people in control of large section of the land and other resources and this seemed unfair to them. Why should this be? It never occurred to them that it was because there were white people directing these activities that they all had jobs and enough to eat. All they saw was apparent inequity. This breeds envy and violence.
It is a simple fact of nature that on the whole (speaking of no individual in particular), black people are not as intelligent as white people. The mean IQ for black people is at least 15 points lower than it is for white people. The black people are not capable of running a complex, modern society on their own. You will not be able to identify one that functions well anywhere in the world. Black people are rather like children; they do best when they have white people to watch over them. But they did not see that, and they turned on their white providers, and are in the final stages of destroying them.
It worked that way under apartheid. To be sure there were inedquities, but everyone had food, jobs, and a stable environment in which to live. Now, with black rule, no one has this. Is that progress?
In the USA, in the time period scornfully called “Jim Crow,” black people lived in peace under the protection of white society. They had jobs, they were fed, they had intact families, the black Church flourished, they had stable lives all because they were supported by the larger white society. People will say that they could not advance, but that is not true. Some did, for example the brilliant Dr. Thomas Sowell who earned his way all the way. There were a number of black colleges, just as there are today.
The civil rights movement of the 1960s broke that happy arrangement and substituted affirmative action, envy, and jealousy. Now black people have pride, few marriages, rampant out of wedlock pregnancy, drug addiction, and a chip on their shoulder. Extreme hostility and mistrust has been created between blacks and whites that was not there under Jim Crow. Blacks regularly advance by affirmative action into jobs for which they are totally unqualified. White people are passed over in order to advance blacks in the name of “justice.” The nation is dumbed down, the idea of merit is replaced by identity politics, and there is fear and loathing all around. Is tis progress?
We have elected a black President. We are on the same road as Rhodesia and South Africa. We should look at them to see our own future. It is a fool’s paradise.
